Lowcountry Literacy Connection

Lowcountry Literacy Connection is a welcoming space dedicated to fostering a love for language and literacy. Our center offers mommy and me classes, writing support, and regular literacy-themed programs. We believe in the power of words and the joy of reading, and we are committed to helping individuals of all ages develop strong literacy skills.  We are passionate about creating a supportive learning environment where words and language offer a means of teaching, learning, storytelling, and connection.

Our Mission

Empowering Through Literacy

Building Strong Foundations

Liberating Stories

Did you know that a mother’s reading skill is the greatest predictor of her children’s future academic success, outweighing other factors, such as socioeconomic status and the child's neighborhood/school district (NICHD, 2010)?

Infants begin distinguishing the sounds associated with their native language by 6 months of age, and by age 2, many children can recognize and comprehend close to 300 spoken words (Law et al., 2017).

The foundational skills for literacy begin at home.

Literacy involves a combination of skills including accuracy and automaticity with word recognition as well as verbal reasoning skills, vocabulary knowledge, knowledge of language structures, and background knowledge.

Our objective is to support other families in the local area as we provide small group classes, mommy and me workshops, and individualized tutoring focused on fostering a love for literacy and language.
